St. John The Baptist Diocesan High School Wins MSG Varsity’s School Spirit Mania Championship

April 7, 2010 - PRLog -- Forget March Madness.  The real rivalry this spring was between the 64 tri-state high schools competing to win MSG Varsity’s online photo contest, School Spirit Mania.  Visitors to MSGVarsity.com were given the opportunity to vote for the photo that best captured a school’s spirit.  St. John The Baptist Diocesan High School in West Islip, New York, was announced the winner April 6 on MSG Varsity’s signature daily sports show, High School SportDesk, on Cablevision’s iO TV (Channel 14).

On March 8, opening brackets had been posted, with online voting continuing by round through April 5.  The final bracket between St. John The Baptist and John Jay East Fishkill High School saw more than 300,000 students, teachers, administrators, parents and fans cast their votes.  

“This was an amazing competition that resulted in 1.7 million total online votes,” explained Theresa Chillianis, general manager, MSG Varsity.  “We congratulate St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School on their very spirited victory and extend a special thank you to all the schools that participated and helped make School Spirit Mania such a success.  At MSG Varsity, we’re all about community, leadership, friendship, teamwork, camaraderie and, of course, school spirit.”

For its victory, St. John The Baptist Diocesan High School was presented with the keys to their very own Club Car trainer utility vehicle wrapped in their school colors.  Prizes are also being awarded to all 64 finalists that were in contention to be the School Spirit Mania Champion.
