SCC International: Channel Islands Prepare for TV Digital Switchover in 2010

April 8, 2010 - PRLog -- The Channel Islands are set to become the latest region in Britain to complete the TV digital switchover.

The four analogue TV channels will be permanently switched off in the area later this year on 27th November. After the switchover, around 50,000 homes in the region will be able to receive up to 15 Freeview channels for the first time.

Digital UK, the organisation leading the digital switchover, will launch a public information campaign in March to advise residents of the Channel Islands about the switchover process. A leaflet will be delivered to every home in the area and the Switchover Help Scheme will write to elderly and disabled persons to offer equipment and installation for the switchover if needed.

The digital switchover began in Britain in 2007 and the process involves replacing the analogue channels with free-to-air digital TV and radio services, i.e. Freeview.

The analogue signal has already been switched off in the Granada, Border and West Country regions in England and the Wales switchover is set to be completed in March. It is anticipated that the whole of Britain will be switched over to the digital signal by the end of 2012.

If it goes as smoothly as the 1st 3 major switch off areas then the residents of the Channel Islands should see very little disruption to their viewing.”
