Follow on Google News | Emory University and Atlanta Business Leaders Visit Israel on AICC Life Science MissionIn an effort to make their extraordinary life science accomplishments global, the American-Israel Chamber of Commerce (AICC) will lead a delegation from Georgia on a Life Science Mission to Israel from April 10 – 16, 2010.
Israel is one of the leading countries in life science areas such as healthcare IT, medical devices, biotechnology, and pharmaceuticals. Development of Life Science business relationships is one the AICC’s priority areas. Faculty from Emory’s School of Medicine and technology transfer team, as well as Georgia business leaders and economic development officials, will take part in the mission. The group includes: • Tom Glaser, President, American-Israel Chamber of Commerce • Raymond Schinazi, PhD, DSc, Professor of Pediatrics and Director of the Laboratory of Biochemical Pharmacology at Emory • Nancy Sousa, Medical Device Consultant and Chair of AICC’s Medical Committee • David Block, President and CEO of the pharmaceutical company Gliknik Inc. • Ray Dingledine, Professor and Chair of Emory’s Department of Pharmacology and Executive Associate Dean of Research at the Emory School • Susan Hollinger, Associate Director and Chief IP Officer of Emory’s Office of Technology Transfer • Terence Walts, President and CEO of 3Ti (Transfusion & Transplantation Technologies LLC) • Jack L. Arbiser, M.D.,Ph.D, Professor, Dept of Dermatology and Winship Cancer Institute at Emory School of Medicine, Founder of Natuderm LLC • Angelo Boujos, Managing Director of Seagel Investment Ltd. • Jennifer More, Executive Director of Southeast BIO • Todd Sherer, PhD, Director of the office of Technology Transfer; Associate Vice President for Research Administration at Emory • Dominique Appleby, General Partner, Condor MedFund Participants will meet with Israeli health and technology leaders through one-on-one meetings, seminars, and briefings. The mission will include: • A visit to Hadassah Medical Center to meet with Hadassit, that organization’ • Meeting with Yissum, Hebrew University’s tech transfer arm • Visit to Weizmann Institute of Science • Seminar at IBM and one-on-one meetings with Israeli companies • Meeting with Yossi Smoler, Director of Israel’s Technology Incubators • Tour of Tel Hashomer Hospital (Chaim Sheba Medical Center) • Seminar at TAU/Ramot (tech transfer arm) • Executive briefing at Teva, focused on licensing opportunities • Seminar at Rambam Hopsital with life science companies • Executive briefing at Given Imaging in Yokneam and meetings with companies there and in Caesaria “Dr. Schinazi and his colleagues at Emory are leading the way in drug discovery for AIDS and other contagious diseases. The mission will allow the growing number of Israeli life science companies to use Atlanta’s pharmaceutical, medical and technology experts as a gateway to U.S. markets,” said Tom Glaser, president of the American-Israel Chamber of Commerce.
