By: Independent Film News Agency Producer Rebecca Long took the Grand Prize at the London Independent Film Festival over the weekend for her debut feature film Forget Me Not. The film, a wistful romance set in London, was the festival's closing night film. Long, who has spent many years working as a script supervisor before venturing into film production scooped the prize which includes a £50k post-production deal with LIFF sponsor Prime Focus. Arthouse director Rika Ohara won LIFF’s award for best International Feature with The Heart of No Place, a modern art reinterpretation of Yoko Ono’s life and work. UK director Nicholas Winter took the festival's award for Best Director for Breathe, his tale of troubled youths; and Cosima Shaw won the award for Best Actor/Actress for her title role in Ana Begins, a story of a young widow’s passage from grief to rebirth. Festival Director Erich Schultz said: “We were overwhelmed with the unprecedented number of entrants this year and very excited by what we saw. I take my hat off to these filmmakers who create such innovative and imaginative work with very little financial backing. I feel certain we have discovered a great deal of new talent, and we wish them every success for the future” Hosted at screening venues across London, including the Apollo Piccadilly, Shortwave, the Roxy, and Curzon cinemas, the 2010 London Independent Film Festival screened over 110 films. The festival highlights the best in micro-budget filmmaking every April and has been called: “A treasure trove of undiscovered cinematic gems….one of Europe's top indie film fests" (British Film Magazine).
