Independent Machine Co. of Fairfield, NJ has developed its latest system for slitting and traverse winding alloy foil laminate with release liner. The new 15" wide system includes a cantilevered unwind for supply rolls up to 20” OD with auto edge guide and adjustable tension control. A liner rewind takes up the liner on a 3” core secured on a cantilevered air shaft as the unwind pays out the material. The cantilevered auxiliary rewind for the leftover material that is not slit incorporates a pneumatic lay on roll. A liner interleaf assembly reintroduces liner to the auxiliary rewind to prepare material for the next pass.  

The slitter is the main speed reference for the system with a speed range to 750 FPM and accommodates interchangeable assemblies for shear, score and razor slitting. Edge trim from each side of the web is wound at the traversing trim winders.          

Each of the 12 cantilevered Smartwinder traverse winding positions accommodates spools up to 12" wide x 15" OD. The system is easily expandable for additional winding positions. Each position operates completely independent of all other positions and has a computerized, fully adjustable, servo driven traverse that will vary pitch, stroke length, end dwell and winding pattern through Smartwinders software.

Precise programmable rewind tension at each position accurate to within 7 grams is  controlled by a closed loop follower drive through the exclusive IMC Dancer/Tension Controller with a 25:1 tension range. Each position has a polyethylene interleaf spool unwind with adjustable brake. The liner is combined to the slit material at the profiled traversing final rolling guide. The operator Touchscreen has recipe storage capability for all winding operating parameters and machine function settings.
