Vern's Wood Goods Shares Plans for Rock-Solid, Low Cost Bookcase; Available Free from WWGOA

May 21, 2010 - PRLog -- In a special volunteer project, Vern's Wood Goods designed a bookcase for a local elementary school.  The charter school was established on a shoestring budget, and had a need for book storage that was attractive, low cost to construct, simple enough to be built by volunteers using basic woodworking tools, light enough for one person to move from classroom to classroom, and offering durability to endure years of abuse from hundreds of small children.  Simple request, huh?

Vern's Wood Goods rose to the challenge, and designed a bookcase that more than meets the requirements.  The bookcase is approximately three feet wide, and six feet tall, with five shelves.  When fully loaded, the shelves show no sign of strain, and the shelves can be adjusted to meet the needs of each classroom.  The material cost for each unit is around $100, and the finished unit compares favorably to bookcases costing $600 - $800 at fancy furniture stores.  That savings can likely fund most or all of the tools necessary to complete this project, so if you are looking for a way to justify taking the plunge into woodworking, this might be just the project to lure you in.
