Follow on Google News | Fish And Chips For Zsl London Zoo Penguins To Launch National Microchipping MonthThe penguins were getting chips with their fish today, at the launch of this year’s National Microchipping Month, which is taking place throughout June.
By: The Kennel Club Petlog is owned and managed by the Kennel Club and started National Microchipping Month to highlight the benefits of animal microchipping and encourage owners of household pets to ensure that their loved ones are chipped. UK households are home to tens of millions of household pets, varying from dogs and cats to guinea pigs, hamsters and snakes. Almost all household pets can be microchipped and it is important that they are. Thousands of pets go missing every year and many are not reunited with their owners as they lack any form of identification. Those microchipped and registered with Petlog however can easily be identified and returned to their rightful owners. Caroline Kisko, Kennel Club Communications Director said; “The penguins at London Zoo present a unique opportunity to demonstrate the large range of animals which are able to be chipped. London Zoo obviously has to have a clear way of identifying individual animals but it is just as important for owners of household pets to do the same in case they go missing.” Petlog is on hand 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, to animal wardens, welfare and rescue centres, veterinary practices and local authorities, who can scan animals for microchips and trace their owners through the Petlog database. Having a microchip implanted in your pet vastly increases its chances of returning home. Petlog provides a range of services for owners of microchipped pets; for further information, please visit www.petlog.org.uk or call 0844 4633 999.
