MWA Welcomes Return of Freedom Flotilla and GFM '09 Delegate David Segarra

June 3, 2010 - PRLog -- WASHINGTON, D.C. (MWA) - It was the evening of New Year's Day 2010, the 86 Gaza Freedom March delegates were set to depart the next morning. I remember David Segarra so vividly, particularly as he was among a small group I found myself amongst that spent the entire night sitting together in the lobby of the Commador; reluctant to succumb to sleep for fear of losing a single precious moment of our Gaza experience.

When I saw David's face in BBC video footage on June 3, 2010 in Istanbul, Turkey, just six months after that New Year's day evening, after learning just the day before that was aboard the Freedom Flotilla that came under attack by Israeli forces on May 31, 2010 - I was ecstatic and moved to tears as memories of Gaza flooded my mind and heart.

Welcome back David. Your fellow GFM comrades are grateful for your safety and those traveling with you.

I am so sad for the tragic turn of events that will forever mark the Freedom Flotilla in the course of history - but I pray, insha'Allah, that the spark of outrage the events of May 31, 2010 ignited world-wide will mark a turning point and that the illegal siege and embargo of Gaza will soon be lifted, that the perpetrators of the illegal crimes against humanity will be brought to justice, and that no single life lost or wound inflicted will have been in vain; God-willing.
