June 21, 2010 - PRLog -- Kalumpit (Terminalia edulis Blanco) is a fruit that comes from a large tree that can grow up to 25 meters. It is a very common and widely distributed species in primary forests at low altitudes from Luzon to southern Mindanao in Philippines. It is also reported from Java.
The fruit is about 3cm wide, smooth and when fully ripe turn to a nice burgundy red. Fruit is fleshy and acid. Besides being eaten raw, also makes a good preserve and used to flavor and age lambanog (coconut liquor).
