Follow on Google News | The 25th Annual NC Beautiful Golf Classic to Raise Educator Funding Through Silent AuctionAnnual event started in 1985 is non-profit’s primary fundraiser used to support environmental grants and scholarships
By: NC Beautiful Chartered in 1967, NC Beautiful was created as part of Governor Dan K. Moore’s pledge to emphasize preserving the state’s physical beauty. The goal behind Governor Moore’s vision was to use the gifts North Carolina was blessed with—its natural resources, scenery, climate, and physical variety—to provide economic and quality of life benefits for the people of North Carolina. That vision became NC Beautiful’s mission. The NC Beautiful Classic has been a state tradition for 25 years and is NC Beautiful’s principle fundraising event. The annual event attracts sponsors and donors from across the state of North Carolina. Nick Lorenz, this year’s Golf Classic Steering Committee Chair, says that the addition of a live auctioneer added to the excitement of last year’s auction, and that he’s looking forward to another lively event this year. “Every year, golfers of every skill level join with our state's greatest corporate sponsors and citizens committed to educating our youth about the environment for a fantastic weekend,” says Lorenz. “Not only do participants experience terrific golf, outstanding food, and legendary Pinehurst hospitality, but they’ll be helping to raise funds for one of the finest and most respected environmental nonprofits in the state. NC Beautiful teaches our children about the wonder of North Carolina's special environmental gifts, and the pride that can be obtained through caring for these treasures.” Lorenz says that he is appreciative to all of the companies and individuals who have generously supported this year’s event through their kind silent auction donations. Among the items up for bid this year are: o Charlotte stay at the Hyatt Place Charlotte/Arrowood, Golf at Verdict Ridge Golf & Country Club (includes cart), and two tickets to a Panthers game. o McConnell Golf Packages to the Treyburn in Durham, Raleigh Country Club in Raleigh, and the Cardinal in Greensboro. Each package includes golf for four and covers the carts, ranges, and guest fees. o Opportunity in the ISP radio booth and assist in the broadcasting of a football game at East Carolina, Wake Forest, or Duke. o Tickets to the (live) ESPY Awards in Los Angeles (rooms included). o Two-night stay at the Washington Duke Inn with two rounds of golf at the Duke University Golf Club, dinner for two in the Lakeview Bistro, and two tickets to a Duke Basketball game. NC Beautiful Executive Director, Steve Vacendak, says that the funds raised during the three-day event help support educational grants and scholarships that help perpetuate the natural beauty of North Carolina. Educational programs such as Windows of Opportunity, the Environmental Scholars Program, and The Governor & Mrs. Dan K. Moore Endowment for Graduate Research provide real-world experience in protecting, preserving, and maintaining the quality of North Carolina’s natural resources and the environment. “As North Carolinians, we are all part of one of the most beautifully diverse states in our nation,” says Vacendak. “It is our duty to be good stewards of our land and to make North Carolina the standard by which other states guide their environmental programs. We’re excited about this year’s Golf Classic and look forward to it being a successful event.” For more information about NC Beautiful or to become a 2010 NC Beautiful Golf Classic sponsor, contact NC Beautiful at (919) 828-3190.
