The No. 1 unit of the Ling Ao Nuclear Power Plant Phase II carries out the first test run yesterday in Guangdong Province.

The successful test laid a foundation for commercial operations, expected to be launched in October.

The Phase II plant has two 1,000-megawatt units.

Lingao NPP Phase I is the second largest commercial plant established in Guangdong after Dayabay NPP was put into operation. Lingao NPP is located in the southeast of Dapeng Island near the west coast of Dayabay. It employs 52 new technologies and enhances the overall safety, reliability and economy of the NPP.

Ling Ao NPP Phase II will be the third large commercial nuclear power plant to be constructed in Guangdong after the construction of Daya Bay NPP and Ling Ao NPP Phase I. It is planned to build two 1000 MW PWR Units.

The Lingao Phase I reactors are virtually replicas of adjacent Daya Bay. Construction started in May 1997 and Lingao 1 started up in February 2002 entering commercial operation in May. Lingao 2 was connected to the grid about September 2002 and entered commercial operation in January 2003. The two Lingao reactors use French technology supplied by Framatome, but with 30% localisation. They are now designated CPR-1000. They are reported to have cost $1800 per kilowatt.......
