June 30, 2010 - PRLog -- ‘Shadow Analyser’ has been developed by a multinational team with the specific intention of allowing Computer Forensic Analysts to interrogate Shadow Volume Copies, (hidden MS Windows files specific to Microsoft Windows Vista and Microsoft Windows 7).

Currently, for each investigation into a Shadow Volume Copies require the Computer Forensic Analyst to replicate their initial investigation. This can take several days each. Using the ‘Shadow Analyser’ tool allows the Computer Forensics Investigator to investigate the Shadow Volume Copies and the ‘normal’ data simultaneously. This software has the potential to make the Computer Forensics Analyst 75% more efficient.

Software researcher Lee Whitfield says “Its taken over 18 months of research to enable our team to develop this software. Its a collaboration between the US and the UK and its aimed at both Computer Forensics Teams and Data Recovery Professionals.”

Mark Mckinnon, senior programmer says “This software will allow Computer Forensic Analysts to ensure that they investigate all the data on the computer, even the files that were currently out of reach to most analysts. This software will make law enforcement more effective and enable them to investigate more computers in much less time.”

The ACPO Cybercrime conference is attended by law enforcement officers from various agencies across the UK to exchange knowledge and ideas on new technologies and developments within the Computer Forensics, Mobile Phone Forensics and Digital Forensics industry. Disklabs will be demonstrating the latest tool in this arena, ‘Shadow Analyser’.
