A Social Art Event to Celebrate Rockford's 75th AnniversaryPresented by the Rockford Area Arts Commission in conjunction with the Rockford 75th Anniversary Weekend Celebration. A month–long arts experience that creates and exhibits artwork throughout the City of Rockford, Michigan.
By: Rockford Area Arts Commission Anyone age 15 and up is eligible to participate. Registration for artists begins on July 15. Deadline for registration is July 30th. Registration fee: 75 cents. However, generous individuals may round the fee up to $1. Event is limited to 75 artists. Work must reflect the City of Rockford, Michigan. If a specific landmark is the subject of the piece, that landmark must exist within Rockford city limits. Work should be new. Artists are encouraged to use the time and Rockford's lovely open spaces to create "plein-air", but if not, the work of art must be less than one year old. Registration forms are available to download in a PDF format at bit.ly/ACArtist. Registration forms and fees are to be turned in at the City of Rockford Offices, 7 South Monroe Street, Rockford, Michigan 49341 either in person or by mail. Venue Set-Up: August 13 Exhibition: August 13–16 Venue Tear–Down: After the registration deadline, artists will be matched with venues in Rockford. Artists may only submit one piece of art. Art can be "for sale" but must remain up at the venue through August 16th. The general public is invited to vote on their favorite pieces and prizes will be awarded in the following categories: Best of show Two–Dimensional Three–Dimensional Time–Based (Performance/ Social Media There will be cash prizes, the amount will be determined by the number of donations received, but in keeping with the 75th anniversary theme, the amounts will contain the number seventy-five. Social media entries may be uploaded via YouTube and Facebook to capture the experience on the weekend of the event. The winning social media entry will be determined by the number of "likes" it receives. You may upload to your site, but please link it to the Rockford Area Arts Commission Facebook fanpage so “likes” may be counted. How to become a venue: The location must be open Saturday August 14 from noon to 6 pm for voting. It must be within boundaries of the City of Rockford. There will be no charge to the artist to exhibit the work. The artist will work directly with venue on coordinating installation of the piece. Sponsorships: 100% of donations up to $2,075 will be offered as prizes. Any donations over $2,075 will be donated to the Rockford Area Arts Commission to encourage and support the arts in the greater Rockford, Michigan area. Sponsorship Levels: Sponsor $7.50 Diamond Sponsor (because it's Rockford's Diamond anniversary) $75.00 It is hoped that this event can utilize the arts to create a "moment in time" to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Rockford being incorporated as a city.
