Aug. 2, 2010 - PRLog -- The International Educational Coalition On Workplace Bullying crosses geographic boundaries to join psychologists, lawyers, researchers, business & Human Resource representatives, advocates and victims in the fight against Workplace Bullying. To do this the group has tapped into the power of social media with the launch of their FACEBOOK page so that each member can share vital information in a global effort.

The idea for the coalition reflects the different backgrounds of the three women who founded it.  Each of them saw the wide variety of vital information available on the topic and realized there needed to be a ‘portal’ to make it easier for people to find.

"It's hard to imagine any topic in which one person, organization, or group is the only place to turn - especially on an International level," says founding member and New York filmmaker Beverly Peterson. "We need to reach out and make greater alliances. Each one of us brings unique experiences and points of view.”

Linda Seiler is an advocate for a bill she helped introduce in New Jersey.  She hopes for a worldwide movement and is “excited by the opportunity to use social media to bring much needed resources to victims/targets who often feel isolated due to the pain and humiliation of being bullied.”

Canadian Angela Monaghan says “changing injustice to justice requires changes in both legislation and social attitude.” She hopes "the IECWB will join others in raising awareness and creating a society where bullying cannot thrive.”

The group is currently reaching out to its members and the general public to gather input for upcoming discussion topics.  One predominant response is for help in understanding the definition of Workplace Bullying.  The definitions vary although most agree that it is a type of abuse that takes place over time and can be difficult to identify.  And, with a little guidance, there is ample research to access the varying perspectives. Other possible topics include the role gender plays in Workplace Bullying, the use of policies as prevention, and the use of mediation and arbitration as a tool to stop bullying.   A new website currently under construction will soon make resources available for non-Facebook users.
