Small Town Of 1700 People Try To Win A Fire Truck For Volunteer Fire Department

Aug. 3, 2010 - PRLog -- In a small rural town in Oregon,  a town has a dream, a dream to replace their 37 year fire truck they jokingly named "Barney." When word came out that E-ONE worldwide designer, manufacturer, and marketer of fire rescue vehicles was giving away a new Fire Truck, Hines VFD Oregon applied and became one of the 7 hand picked cities to be placed in the contest.This is the second year in a row that Hines VFD has made it into the top seven finalists in the country in the E-One "most deserving fire dept" in the nation contest. This year they are in second place being beat out by a big city with a lot people and media support. The fire department that gets the most votes will win the brand new $175000 truck this August.

It is clear that Hines VFD is frustrated with the lack of media coverage from their State. It was stated on their facebook page.   "I am disappointed that your news channel has not provided any coverage of a National contest featuring a small, rural Oregon community, trying to win a new fire engine for there fire department. The town needs support from the State of Oregon and the Pacific NW, and your station should be providing the media coverage to assist them. What more of a good news story can you get than helping rural Oregonians."

Although they have received some online support, support from their city, and support from the popular itunes podcast rocklandusa.com, even the hosts of that show are disappointed in the lack interest from their fans and social network friends. "I have been putting up reminders for the contest everyday"  Jen Reynolds co host of The Daily Podcast on Rocklandusa said. "I post on Twitter, Facebook, and Myspace but people seem more interested in things that don't matter these days. I can put up a picture of a log and say something stupid about it and get 50 replies. You put up a link to help an entire town in need you are lucky to get one or two replies. It is very frustrating. We even bought them the Domain Winafiretruck.com to make the voting more assessable and easy to remember. Just seems like not many people care.

With only days to go Volunteers of the Hines VFD are spending hours a day trying desperately to come up with votes and media coverage. "Barney" has seen better days and this small town does not have the resources to purchase a new fire truck.
