"REAL Life Drawing - My Eye on Washington DC" by Mary Gallagher Stout now on sale

Aug. 5, 2010 - PRLog -- Washington, DC - Virginia (DC Metro) artist Mary Gallagher Stout's book "REAL Life Drawing - My Eye on Washington DC" has been released by Sunbury Press. It is now for sale from the publisher and major booksellers.

The book is a compilation of Stout's works painted plein air at various famous Washington, DC sites. All of the paintings were done on top of issues of the Washington Post newspaper. Says Stout:

...all the works in the project - REAL Life Drawing: My Eye on Washington SC were created atop of the Washington Post necessarily.  The series is about recording/reporting what is actually happening in DC today.  I choose the Post as my material because I was thinking about how we get our news.  I noticed that we are getting further and further away from primary sources.  We get all of our news 2nd and 3rd hand.   I thought it would be more meaningful to sketch first hand observations/scenes on a 2nd hand material/source - the Post.  I gessoed the paper on either side to blur the existing text and then spattered the primary colors to represent me…the artist as the primary source.  

Stout is from Stafford, Virginia and is affiliated with the Lorton Arts Foundation Workhouse Center in Lorton, Virginia. She is also well known for her www.monkeysee.com instructional videos.
