Milwaukee Area Foster Parent Starts Consulting Business To Help Future Parents

Aug. 30, 2010 - PRLog -- MILWAUKEE, August 31, 2010 - Shelia Lampley was a single mom of two and worried about her son’s life expectancy due to the crime rate among African American males. As he was growing up, she has seen several young African Americans die at the hands of a gun in Milwaukee.  Thankfully, her children have made it to adulthood and she knew that her love, guidance and prayer had paid off. At that point in 2001, she decided to help as many male teens as she could by becoming a foster parent for teens.

Presently, Sheila Lampley has started Fostering 4 Ever, a Foster and Adoptive Parent Consulting Business that recruits and trains individuals to become foster or adoptive parents.  There a is great need for Foster Parents in Milwaukee County where many youths, especially African-Americans, are at greater risk for becoming part of the violence in the streets that we hear about in the news every week.  “When my mother said she was going back to school to get her degree in business administration so that she would start her own business I was proud to be her son.” Damien Allen, Milwaukee, WI

Every year, more and more children are being placed into the foster care system. Gangs, drugs and lack of parents, and role models, continue to deteriorate Milwaukee’s inner cities.  Teen age pregnancy, high school dropouts, shootings, thefts and violence can all be thwarted if some of these children had a loving and caring family at home.

“I wanted to break the cycle of death among our youth. I have raised five males, including two that are still with me who are all living today and doing well. I want to give teen males a chance to complete high school and go on to college.” states Sheila Lampley, “I believe in giving these boys a chance to take back their future.”

In 2004, Lampley decided that she wanted to do more, so she started working on a non-profit residential home for males which is still in the makings. In 2005, she decide to continue her education and get her bachelor degree in Business Administration, so that she could continue with her dreams.  She wanted to start a consulting business for individuals seeking to become foster parents and to teach people how to become great foster parents.  Over the years, Sheila has attend numerous foster care training’s, lectures and workshops to assist her pursue the noble dream of starting Fostering 4 Ever.

Lampley is also a recent graduate of the Multicultural Entrepreneurial Institute (MEI) and Social Development Commission’s (SDC) Small Business Entrepreneurial Program for entrepreneurs and emerging enterprises in Milwaukee County. The initiative was funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) and it is the largest award provided by SDC under the Act.
