Sept. 8, 2010 - PRLog -- A new book geared to explaining concepts of cultural diversity and  the benefits of understanding and accepting diversity in schools and the workplace is announced by Group Klopfer, an Iowa-based diversity consulting firm.

Entitled Profit From Cultural Diversity: Getting Along With Others, the book is written for “anyone in business − personnel, marketing, management, supervision − but also has important messages for educators, ministers, health and mental health professionals, lawyers and students, as well as anyone else who is interested in the world around them,” the book's author, Susan Klopfer, said.

“One day, affirmative action could become a forgotten term. This will happen when all Americans understand that we really are a highly diversified nation, and then learn to start getting along with and appreciating the talents of others. Diversity can pay off financially when it comes to marketing, so look for business and organizations to pave the way to this new consciousness as we open our minds to people, cultures and new opportunities,” Klopfer said, in describing the book’s main point.

Klopfer’s book is divided into five major divisions that include: Cultural Diversity, Multiculturalism and Cross Cultural Communication; Individual and Group Factors Affecting Diversity Acceptance; Managing and Valuing Diversity; Managing Change to Allow For Diversity; and Five Common Diversity Mistakes That Organizations Make (and How To Correct Them).

“This book comes at a time when events around the world are drawing attention -- for instance, the disagreement over the building of a mosque in New York City and the threat to burn a copy of the Koran by a Florida minister on the anniversary of 9/11. There are so many issues focused on understanding diversity that need to be discussed and understood, and I am hoping this new book brings some new answers, especially for people who are new to the topic,” Klopfer said.

"This book will certainly address some of the most important research, but will also have plenty of interesting stories and accounts. It is written at a high school level with the goal of making it easy to read and interesting for just about anyone."

The Iowa author has written three civil rights books, two computer books, a book on home-based businesses and a book about Branson, Missouri where she worked as the city reporter and won journalism awards for her investigative reporting. Klopfer has also worked for Prentice Hall Publishing as an acquisitions and development editor. When working for the major publishing house, she wrote an "easy to understand" book on the popular operating system for personal computers that was named an alternate selection by the Book of-the-Month Club, The DOS Answer Book: Abort! Retry! Fail!

Klopfer is a graduate in Communication from Hanover College and holds an M.B.A. degree from Indiana Wesleyan University.

“I became interested in civil rights topics when living in the Mississippi Delta and learning the stories of Emmett Till and others. From there, my journey has taken me into the topic of diversity,” she said. Klopfer recently wrote a book about young Till who was murdered in 1955, and whose murder sparked the modern civil rights movement (Who Killed Emmett Till?).

Profit From Cultural Diversity: Getting Along With Others is set for publication by CreateSpace in both e-book and print book formats to coincide with American Education Week that is annually observed beginning in the third week of each November.
