By: Jody Hill Let's get to the most important piece of Real Estate one owns. It's the 6 inches between your ears. You got it, our minds. To make sure we are all on the same page lets clarify some definitions. I have taken my definitions from the Websters Dictionary. Let's pick out each word to get a crystal clear idea of what we are talking about. Fair? 1. Freedom: the quality or state of being free: as in the absence of necessity, coercion, or constraint in choice or action Quality: : an inherent feature Being: a living thing. State: Condition: Let's reword it to be clear. Freedom is an inherent agreement of the mind absence of necessity or coercion. Where do you see anything about money in that definition or definitions above? Freedom is said usually hoping to take one away from their current living conditions. Interesting. I would suggest an even better word of Carefree. Carefree means to have no worries or troubles. You choose, which word do you really mean? People spend thousands of dollars looking how to become free. They equate the word freedom with success. Are they really that closely tied? I believe so. Definition of Success as per Websters dictionary; : favorable or desired outcome. Success means different things to different people. Success usually has a label attached. I am successful when I earn a million dollars. I am successful when I weigh ________ (you put in whatever number important to you). Here's a funny side note, at least to me. I spoke with an older lady and she had this "goal" to lose so many pounds, something like 50lbs to get down to 140 lbs. Well, I know you can't see me but I feel I'm in pretty good shape wearing a size 9 in women's clothing and I weight much more than 140 (HaHa, no I'm not going to tell you my weight because by the time you read this my weight may have changed). Just know, I haven't weighed 140 since High School! Such an unrealistic picture of success. We all do that, I did that for years holding an unrealistic picture of success, working towards something that doesn't even exist and holding onto that belief I failed. This article is written because I have learned a few things over the years to the point of feeling more free than I ever have in my life and I wanted to share what I've learned. 2. Labels; used for identification, description and offers facts and information . Society places labels on everything & everyone, we take them by placing them into our belief system and owning them. For example; What is Rich? Each of you will write down a figure of what that means to you. Now you look at what you believe society has labeled rich as...is it living in a large home, owning high end cars, living the "good" life. That may match your definition, but what if it doesn't? The farther away your label is from societies determines a couple of things. How much motivation does that generate you to achieve something better and if it does motivate you how much money are you willing to spend to get those results? All so others can see we fit in! That's a hard one to overcome. Let's look at labels in a visual way. We can apply this to our legal system, school system pertaining to grades, motherhood, son or daughter, work/employee, relationships..anything that fits into how you label yourself. In fact, go ahead and spend a few minutes completing an exercise of writing down all the labels that describe you. Are you a wife, mother, sister, daughter, lover, Grandmother, daughter in law etc. You get the picture. Go into your political views, what you do for a living, relationships, religion, food preferences, physical characteristics, bank account to name a few categories. This will show you clearly the basic standard you hold yourself to. Go back up to the definition of Rich, you can now see what your label is compared to what you want it to be. Make sense? The real question then is how do I become FREE of those labels. Wouldn't that offer you the freedom you are seeking? 3. Price; The cost at which something is obtained. Labels are usually what identifies an item and at what price? Interesting way to break it down. Why am I sharing this with you because I have gone through the same exercise in my journey to create different results for myself. Yes I am a real estate investor, real estate is the simple part. My personal development has been the most challenging. Why because I found myself resisting more than allowing new beliefs and labels for myself. Why did I add "price" into this article? We all pay a price for the labels we have attached. For example; if I have been looking at achieving greater income and I am stuck at a certain level, that is because my label hasn't been updated to reflect my new belief or desired income OR the value I place on myself is set pretty low.
