Evidence-Based Information on Cervical Cancer Prevention Be Aware – Be Engaged – Be Safe

Making the decision to vaccinate with HPV Vaccines or receive regular PAP screenings. It's your HEALTH. Be informed.

Oct. 5, 2010 - PRLog -- North Hollywood, CA, October 4, 2010 — North Hollywood, CA. S.A.N.E.Vax, Inc. http://sanevax.org has posted an evidence-based commentary by prominent pathologist, Sin Hang Lee, MD, advising women to continue their regular Papanicolaou (Pap) screenings, rather than solely relying on human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination and colposcopic biopsies without a prior Pap smear cytology result to indicate the need for HPV vaccination.  The Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) has reported close to 19,000 adverse reactions and 78 deaths from the HPV vaccines - with an estimated 1 to 10% of the population reporting.

S.A.N.E.Vax, Inc. is a non-profit organization founded to promote safe, affordable, necessary and effective vaccines and vaccination practices through consumer education.  Dr. Sing Hang Lee has developed an HPV test to determine if a woman has been exposed to any of the over 100 strains of HPV.

Dr. Lee’s commentary is in response to a policy-making recommendation made by two senior officers of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) in an article published in the July issue of Obstetrics and Gynecology, proposing further reduction of the role of the traditional Pap smear screening by replacing it with prophylactic vaccination of adolescents against carcinogenic HPV infections, HPV testing, and colposcopic biopsies for cervical cancer prevention

Dr. Lee said that this proposed practice, if implemented, would be highly risky because it has not been shown to be safe and effective for the general U.S. female population.

In Dr. Lee’s opinion, traditional Pap smear technology is adequate and has reduced the cervical cancer rate from 44 per 100,000 to less than 5 per 100,000 in mainstream American women. The rare failures of the Pap smear cytology to detect cancer or pre-cancer occur in implementation of the technology; a function of human factors corrected with professional wisdom and work ethics.

S.A.N.E Vax is concerned about the dangerous NCI recommendations for the mass vaccination of American women and colposcopic biopsies by HPV test referrals without regular Pap smear screenings for future cervical cancer prevention for the following reasons:

(1) HPV vaccines have not been proven to be safe and effective for U.S. women;

(2) Currently available HPV tests are inaccurate, leading to excessive, unnecessary, harmful biopsies on women at a great cost to society.

An article in the August 24, 2010 Sydney Morning Herald written by medical reporter Danny Rose titled Concern as Pap test rates drop states that:

“Young women in Australia are shunning the uncomfortable, but potentially life-saving, Pap test.  The test, which can identify the warning signs for cervical cancer, has seen a significant drop-off in use by women aged 25 to 29, a Victorian-based study has revealed.”

VAERS has reported 283 cases of abnormal pap smears including cervical lesions and the presence of high-risk HPV post vaccination, yet the NIH, CDC and vaccine manufacturers do not recommend HPV testing prior to vaccination.

In the May 2006 FDA VRBPAC documents it is noted that prior exposure to HPV which is not solely transmitted sexually in combination with HPV vaccination may cause an increase in cervical cancer rates; 44.6% with Gardasil and 32.5% with Cervarix.

S.A.N.E. Vax and Dr. Lee encourage women and their physicians to be informed and engaged in their gynecological health care. If you have been exposed to vaccine-relevant HPV prior to vaccination, you could increase your risk of cervical cancer. If you have an abnormal pap test after vaccination, you need to know why.

S.A.N.E.Vax, Inc. is offering an affordable highly sensitive HPV test with specific HPV genotyping by DNA sequencing to consumers for safe vaccination practice.  More information can be found at sanevax.org.
