Oct. 6, 2010 - PRLog -- The Art Institutes International Minnesota will begin marketing its new Bachelor of Science in Audio Production degree program in October with the first class being offered in January 2011.  The mission of the Audio Production program is to prepare graduates for positions in live venue sound production, film, television, radio, and interactive broadcast mediums. The Audio Production program specifically offers training in the areas of audio production, music technology, synthesis and sound design, MIDI systems, and various recording techniques. Graduates from this program will be prepared for entry-level positions in audio engineering, music recording, radio and television broadcasting, audio equipment design, maintenance and repair, live venue and field recording, and audio sound design.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor 2010-2011 Occupational Outlook Handbook (http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos109.htm), “Employment of audio and video equipment technicians and sound engineering technicians is expected to grow faster than the average for all occupations. Not only will these workers have to set up audio and video equipment, but they will have to maintain and repair it as well. Employment of broadcast technicians is expected to grow about as fast as the average for all occupations through 2018, as advancements in technology enhance the capabilities of technicians to produce higher quality radio and television programming,” the Handbook noted.

In the Audio Production program, students will start with acoustic, musical, and electronic audio basics while working with digital computer-based audio recording and editing programs.  The program includes audio recording and post-production classes well as courses in music and studio business.   Students will also build on this foundation to study advanced musical production and engineering, Musical Instrument Digital Interface systems (MIDI), audio-to-video, and advanced mixing and mastering, as well as interactive media, media business, project management, and professional development.  Students create a portfolio to showcase their skills in a variety of audio formats to present to prospective employers.

The program provides a creative, structured environment that encourages, even demands, a combination of hands-on experience and technical knowledge using the type of equipment used in the industry today.

Audio production graduates are prepared to seek entry-level positions at production companies, record labels, radio and TV stations, recording studios, CD and DVD manufacturing facilities, mastering studios, audio post production for film and video, and sound design for game and the Internet. The Bachelor of Science degree program prepares graduates to seek entry-level positions such as audio for video postproduction engineer or mixer; audio software designer/producer; Foley artist, editor, mixer, or recordist; music editor or producer; or sound designer.
