Oct. 8, 2010 - PRLog -- Six nursing assistant students with the Baggium Vocational School s of Sweden will be at The Wartburg Adult Care Community learning about health care in the United States until November.  These students attend a secondary school apprenticeship program that incorporates general education with specialization in a variety of vocational areas.

Baggium’s school administrators chose to contact The Wartburg after seeing an international news story about the  campus’ adult care services several years ago.  The six students will rotate through the long-term care residence, adult day programs, recreational, physical and occupational therapy departments, assisted living memory care and home care visits with The Wartburg’s professional staff.  A vocational instructor accompanies the students for the duration of the visit.  At the end of the three-year training course, students will have hands-on experience and will receive a diploma qualifying them to continue on to a college or university.  This type of training is designed to give students options to continue with a trade or pursue an academic course of study.  Students are encouraged to take part in the Baggium’s international partnerships in the UK, Germany, Norway, Turkey, Italy, Senegal, Kenya and the United States.

“This is the first time Baggium has brought nursing assistant students to the United States,” said Paula Ress, Administrator of The Wartburg long term care residence and sub-acute care center.  “It is certain that the exchange of ideas will be a positive thing for both our programs.”

Baggium Education AB has 41 vocational schools throughout Sweden with approximately 5,000 students. Students who attend the program can receive grants through the Swedish government, which began investing in this new style of apprenticeship in 2008.
