Oct. 20, 2010 - PRLog -- Several years ago in response to ongoing industrial and agricultural accidents related to the ignition of combustible dusts, OSHA issued Directive #: CPL 03-00-008, Subject: Combustible Dust National Emphasis Program.

The purpose of the OSHA program is to inspect facilities that generate or handle combustible dusts and make recommendations that will reduce the risk of fire hazard which could result in bodily injury, loss of life and property damage.

The OSHA directive covers a wide range of materials used in many application areas across almost all the major industrial and agricultural sectors. Industries that handle combustible dusts include agriculture, chemical, textile, forest and furniture product, wastewater treatment, metal processing, paper product, pharmaceutical and recycling operation (metal, paper, and plastic) industries.

In response, EC2, Inc, a Chicago based environmental consulting firm, offers complete solutions for compliance and safety to the OSHA compliance directive for combustible dusts.  “Many industrial operations generate dust during normal operations,” reported Ed Chambers, the President of EC2. “When dusts become airborne they will settle throughout a facility. As little as 1/32 of an inch covering more than 5% of an enclosed room can at times cause an explosion.  Not only can these situations lead to deadly explosions and fires, but also costly OSHA fines.  The safest way to prevent dust problems is to monitor for their presence and remove it from the facility.”

The environmental consulting experts at EC2, with over 5,000 indoor air quality (IAQ) investigations successfully resolved, are experts at identifying dust problems and working with remediation experts to eliminate hazardous conditions.  EC2 has partnered with Advanced Indoor Air Quality Care to provide complete compliance and safety solutions for dust issues across the Midwest and East Coast.
