Follow on Google News | Soleil Laurel Canyon Residents Raise $7,100 for Angel House in CantonMore than 100 residents of Soleil Laurel Canyon came together on Saturday, Oct. 9 for the second annual Angel Walk to raise money for the Angel House, a Canton-based safe-haven for girls ages 12-18. The event raised $7,100.
By: Flammer Relations, Inc. The Angel Walk was started a year ago by Soleil residents in order to remember members of the community who have passed away since the community was founded almost four years ago. On the day of the walk, a special memory tree is planted in community’s garden as a part of this memorial. The walk was also designed to help raise money and awareness for the Angel House of North Georgia, an organization that provides housing and counseling for teen-aged girls. Through registration fees, a raffle and a silent auction, $7,100 was raised by the event to help the Angel House purchase a small fuel-efficient vehicle to supplement its fifteen passenger van they now use. During the event, participants walked almost four miles from the Soleil Clubhouse down the Laurel Canyon hill and back. At the end of the Walk, participants received a 2010 Angel Walk T-Shirt while enjoying a meal prepared and served by Les Marmitons, a men’s cooking club based in Soleil. “One of our former residents Carla Roberts, who was my wife’s tennis partner was very active with the Angel House,” said Ron Laird, who helped organize the Angel Walk with his wife. “Carla used to walk up and down the Laurel Canyon Hill, so we decided to come up with an event that could both remember her and other loved ones and raise money for the Angel House at the same time.” Restricted to those 55+ in age, residents at Soleil enjoy a wide range of amenities including a 28,000 square foot clubhouse with heated indoor saline pool, billiards parlor, gourmet teaching kitchen, fitness center and aerobics studio, library, two card rooms and an arts and crafts studio. A performing arts center, outdoor amphitheatre, outdoor lagoon-style pool, six clay tennis courts, full-time tennis pro, walking trails and greenhouse round out the long list of amenities. Those interested in learning more about Soleil can utilize the community’s Sneak-a-Peek Home Program that allows potential homeowners the chance to experience the Soleil lifestyle with a three day, two night stay in one of the fully furnished guest homes in the community.
