Nov. 3, 2010 - PRLog -- New research has revealed that half of gamers admit to getting angry whilst playing on their console, a further fifth confessed that they have actually broken their console or nearby items during an outburst, whilst a third admitted to throwing their controller.

Nationwide research of 1,652 Brits by http://www.MyVoucherCodes.co.uk has revealed that a fifth, 19%, of gamers have admitted to breaking their console. The research was conducted as the site wanted to look into the relationship between the gamer and their console.

When asked “do you ever get angry when playing on your games console?” 51% of the respondents admitted that they did, with a quarter admitting that they didn’t.

21% of those who said they felt they suffered with ‘computer rage syndrome’ – or CRS – confessed that they had in fact broken their console or nearby items whilst playing. A third, 32%, admitted that they had thrown their controller, with 1 in 10 of these admitting that it had broken. 7% of those who had broken their console admitted that they had struck their console with an object, with one respondent confessing to hitting their computer with a bat.

Just under two thirds of respondents admitted that they were more inclined to get angry when playing an opponent, with a further 11% stating that they had fallen out with a friend or relative over a game. 14% of those polled said that they tended to get angriest when their computer character ‘didn’t do what they wanted them to do’, whilst 29% admitted that computer glitches made them upset.

When those who had broken their console were asked their thoughts on the ‘episode’, 9 in 10, 91% admitted regretting the decision afterwards, whilst 9% said that they would have ‘done it again’.

Mark Pearson, chairman of http://www.MyVoucherCodes.co.uk said;

“We have discounts for computer stores and games on MyVoucherCodes daily so we thought it would be good to investigate how gamers feel about gaming and their consoles. I’m pretty certain that if anyone has ever played a computer game before they will know how frustrating it can quite often be when something isn’t going your way.”

“Whilst it might seem like a good idea at the time to lash out at your console, it is probably best to take a deep breath before making any rash decisions.”

He continued;

“Getting angry, or a bad case of CRS, as we like to call it may make you feel better at the time, but considering that 9 in 10 of those who have broken their console regretted their decision, there is a strong chance that you will too. Unless of course you are one of the 9% who would ‘do it again’.”
