Spring Iron:   A spring curling iron is the most popular and inexpensive curling iron that you can purchase.  They are very simple to use because there is a little spring that automatically closes the clamp on the barrel.  You use your thumb to open the clamp making them very user friendly.

Marcel Iron:   A Marcel Iron is very popular to the salon professional and a more difficult to use until you have become accustomed to it. Clip-less Wand Iron:   A Clip-Less Wand Iron has no clamps or clips.  The user simply wraps the hair strand around the heated barrel.  They are very easy and nice to use.  The Clip-Less irons come with a glove for your hand to help prevent burns.  

Remember that your desired curl or wave will determine what size barrel of the curling iron you will need.  A smaller barrel will give you more spiral or tight curl and the bigger barrel will give you more volume and loose curl.
