“Kitchens can quickly become dated and tired and some could do with a real good going over,” explains Christina Penrose, Principal of RE/MAX Profile Real Estate.
Installing a new kitchen can be extremely costly and most vendors wouldn’t get their investment back, however, sellers can trick up their kitchen by following a few D.Y.I. tips.
Grab a screwdriver and, with a couple of turns you can move your cupboard doors back into place so they open and close like new. Then, if you want to go a little further, you can replace the handles and add a coat of laminate paint and all of a sudden your kitchen has a whole new feel.
“The kitchen is a focal point of the home and is therefore a major consideration to home buyers. Make sure your cupboards aren’t cluttered and that all your doors and drawers are in good working order. Keep your bench top tidy and clean and try and make sure there are no nasty odours,” Christina says.
Christina’s top tips for bringing your kitchen to life before placing your home on the market:
•   Clean the oven, grill, and cook top.
•   Make sure cupboards aren’t cluttered.
•   Remove seldom used appliances from bench tops.
•   Ensure all drawers and cupboard doors are in good working order.
•   Remove magnets, calendars and keepsakes from the refrigerator door.
•   Ensure there are no unpleasant odours.
•   Make sure the sink and side boards are spotless and sparkling.
“A few hours of hard work spent on the kitchen prior to placing your home on the market can literally add thousands to your sale price,” Christina concludes.
