Roberts, as its Lifetime Achievement Honoree at The WIN Awards 2010 ceremony on Tuesday, January 18th, 2011 at the Broad Stage in Santa Monica, California. According to WIN founder, Phyllis Stuart, “Honoring a trailblazer like Suzanne Roberts is a perfect fit for our charity's mission. A visionary thinker and artist, Ms. Roberts has both entertained audiences and supported the arts since getting her start as an actress in the 1940s, at a time when strong female cinematic roles were commonplace. We look forward to celebrating Ms. Roberts’ accomplishments as a woman who has long understood that the media should depict women well”. The same evening WIN celebrates its illustrious honorees, WIN also awards outstanding film and television nominees whose work either boasts a female protagonist or is directed and/or produced by a woman. The nominee list includes actresses, films and shows like Glee, Secretariat, Cougar Town, Diane Lane, Sally Hawkins, Joey King, Jane Lynch, Susan Sarandon, Jada Pinkett Smith, Sasha Alexaner and Selena Gomez, among many others. The complete 2010 nominee list is available at the The WIN Awards website. Women's Image Network (WIN) produces The WIN Awards to shape positive public opinion about the value of women and girls by celebrating outstanding film and television work and fostering powerful female media images that depict dimensional and accurate portrayals of women and girls. The WIN Awards also celebrate both men and women in the media who promote gender parity through both creativity and leadership. According to Stuart, “We produce The WIN Awards to underscore the importance of women achieving social and economic parity. We know that if women and girls are portrayed well in the media, they soon may be well-treated. Our logline sums up our mission: See Us In 3-D Not Just Double-D.” Since 1993, the mission of Light Productions, Inc., DBA Women's Image Network, has been to engage, celebrate and influence the media to recognize the need for gender balance and to move away from stereotyping. While gender equality has progressed, male characters in film and television still greatly outnumber female characters on every size screen. Moreover, women are still often stereotyped and poorly portrayed. Since females represent 53% of the population, WIN encourages fair and dimensional female media representation as this practice is an essential ingredient for girls and women to value themselves and to be valued by our culture.
