I purchased the 3790LMT at Costco the day before Thanksgiving: paid $450. This is the 10th GPS I've purchased over the years. My current GPS is a Garmin 1490T. The 3790LMT is my first voice-commanded GPS.

First day of use was very disappointing: voice commands worked poorly or not at all. Then I watched a 10 minute video review (youtube: search for NGY1VArejQQ) which won the unit a reprieve. I reluctantly took it for a second day of errands along with the reliable 1490T for backup.

The second day of use was very positive. The 3790LMT displays my blackberry's address book in less than a minute; the 1490 takes ~5 minutes before seeing the address book. I started making `short and sweet' phone calls.

In 30 minutes I made 10 phone calls, all of which were initiated by voice command. 6 voice commands are issued to make a call (`voice command, `down', `phone', `dial contacts', (say name), (select appropriate entry if they have multiple numbers).

Making calls with previous GPS units involves touching the screen multiple times (Phone/Phone Book/scroll to an entry (no option to spell the name)/select a number/Call). Touching the screen this many times takes your eyes off the road a LOT and at least one hand off the wheel. I always felt self-conscious when dialing and driving, even though this was `safer' than using a smartphone keyboard.

Voice-commanded actions for entering addresses and selecting favorites, recently found, and find-address entries all went smoothly with only a few errors and requiring only a few touches of the screen when I was impatient. Revising my speech pattern slightly made for 100% command accuracy.
