Dec. 19, 2010 - PRLog -- Marine biologist Dr. Aaron Adams, Bonefish & Tarpon Trust Operations Director and Senior Scientist for Mote Marine Laboratory, joins Florida Fly Fishing Magazine as a contributing editor with a focus on marine conservation and environmental issues.

Adams has long been an advocate of the philosophy that information is key to success. This is the primary motivation behind his effort to translate fish science into terms that anglers can use. Anglers can benefit from this effort through his articles in the magazine as well as his books: Fisherman’s Coast and Fly Fisherman’s Guide to Saltwater Prey, and his chapters in Chico Fernadez’s book Fly Fishing for Bonefish.

He also believes that anglers have a responsibility to be active stewards of their fisheries and habitats, so need to be involved in conservation. His friend Chico Fernandez said it best “The times when we could go fishing, have fun, and go home and forget about it until the next trip are gone. If we want to have fisheries in the future, we have to get involved in conservation.”  Aaron promotes this philosophy through his work with Tribal Bonefish – a movement toward creating responsible anglers.

"I’m pleased to be joining the editorial staff of Florida Fly Fishing Magazine," said Adams. "It’s refreshing to have a publication show a real interest in conservation, not just lip service. I believe that by being informed people become better anglers and better stewards of the fisheries, and this venue promotes that notion."

"We're very happy to have Dr. Adams join us," said Florida Fly Fishing Magazine publisher Ed Maurer from his Dunedin, Florida offices. "One of the basic missions of the magazine is to promote good care of the environment. Having a scientist like Aaron helping our efforts only makes our job easier and more trustworthy."

Always one to walk the walk, as a researcher at Mote Marine Lab, Aaron studies gamefish and their habitats so resource managers have the information they need for fisheries conservation (http://fishermanscoast.com/research/FHE_summary.html).  And as Director of Bonefish & Tarpon Trust since 2006, he oversees research and conservation programs on bonefish, tarpon, and permit that are essential to the long term health of these fisheries.
