Jan. 6, 2011 - PRLog -- Portland, OR  – Tutor Saliba Learning is adding a new curriculum to its educational materials. A pilot program for masonry students in vocational and technical schools has been adapted to the tutor saliba method.  The program will be used in four schools already using the method for woodworking, auto shop, beautician and electronic systems programs.

The tutor saliba learning method focuses on three ways of learning in the classroom. The teaching materials focus on three separate lesson plans geared toward students who learn orally, visually and audibly.

“There has been such a strong interest in the carpentry and woodworking vo-tech programs, that we thought masonry program materials would be the next natural step,” said Jeff Saliba, founder of the tutor saliba (http://www.tutorsalibalearning.com/) learning method. “In many schools, the students in both programs frequently work together on local community projects. We have seen an interest from the brick and masonry students seeking the same opportunities as their classmates.”

The tutor saliba learning (http://www.tutorsalibalearning.com/about/) method was originally designed for a tutoring student of Saliba’s that was falling behind in his traditional classroom studies. Saliba later adapted the method to help teachers reach all students from elementary through high school age. The tutor saliba vocational and technical programs were implemented this school year for the first time.

“The vo-tech students are a special group, because they are basically ready to join the workforce straight out of school,” said Saliba. “They, too are a mixture of learners through seeing, hearing and speaking.”

Additional vo-tech packages are in the planning and research phases for 2012 and 2013. Saliba noted that the original plan to increase the number of tutor saliba vo-tech programs to 8 for the 2012 school year has been affected by lack funding for research and development. The current plan is to add masonry and perhaps 2 to 3 more specialties next year.
