SHAWN JAMES PUBLISHES NEW FAITH BASED FANTASY NOVEL

January 2011– Writer Shawn James has published The Temptation of John Haynes, an African-American Christian fantasy novel.

“The Temptation of John Haynes is a contemporary Christian fantasy about a man tempted by the Devil and a beautiful she-demon with the powerful position as the CEO of a multinational corporation. If she can persuade him to compromise his values and beliefs as a Christian, The Devil will take his soul to Hell.” James says. “It’s an action-packed story exploring how religion, compromise, and faith impact the human condition in the business world and the African-American community.”

James says he wrote the novel to give Christian readers a fantasy alternative to books like Harry Potter and the Twilight series. “While books like Harry Potter and Twilight allow fantasy readers to escape, those stories often explore occult subjects like witchcraft, Satanism, and vampirism.” James continues. “I wanted to give Christian readers a series that explored religious themes and featured characters that were forced to deal with conflicts they’d face as they applied their faith every day.”

A free-lance writer for over fifteen years, Shawn James is the author of the novels Isis, The Cassandra Cookbook and the screenplay All About Marilyn. He is also a feature writer for the African-American online social media site Onixlink.com. Shawn’s mission as a writer and publisher of SJS DIRECT is to create positive stories about the African-American experience.

As a publisher, James would like to work towards diversifying the selection of literature available to African-American readers. “When it comes to African-American fiction, readers have very few categories to choose from on the bookstore shelf.” James says. “Sure customers can find urban and contemporary fiction, but very few publishers produce stories in genres like fantasy or science fiction.” James hopes that sales of The Temptation of John Haynes will show that the African-American audience is eager to buy stories in other categories of fiction such as fantasy, horror, and science fiction.
