Chapman University student Philip McGuire is the recipient of a $10,000 scholarship to be used toward his spring Semester at Sea tuition.

Jan. 31, 2011 - PRLog -- McGuire is currently attending the Institute for Shipboard Education (ISE) program Semester at Sea. (http://www.semesteratsea.org/)  His exceptional essay submitted to The National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS), an honor society to which he belongs, earned him the scholarship.

McGuire is a sophomore Digital Arts major with a Visual Effects emphasis at the Dodge College of Film and Media Arts. His is a native of Needham, MA where he attended Needham High School.

“When I found out I received the award I was both excited and relieved,” said McGuire. “It is great to know that there are organizations that support students who wish to expand their education by traveling abroad and I felt honored to be selected as one of those students.”

Partnering with the ISE program, NSCS awards over $48,000 in scholarships throughout the year to assist students enrolled in the Scholar at Sea program. Three $5,900 scholarships are awarded each summer semester and one $10,000 scholarship for the fall and spring semesters.

“Semester at Sea is such a rewarding experience for college students,” said Steve Loflin, CEO & Founder of NSCS.” We strive to open doors and create opportunities for our members to become active, engaged citizens of the world. The Scholar at Sea scholarship is only one way we encourage our members to grow from studying abroad.”

The Semester at Sea program allows students to visit nearly a dozen countries while studying on a shipboard campus. Students will experience different cultures and learn about global diversity as they continue their education and work closely with other students from different backgrounds.
