0844 Numbers Can Make Your Business Money

Ofcom’s 08 range of non-geographic numbers is probably best known for the 0800 freephone prefix. However, sales of 0844 numbers have seen marked growth recently.

Feb. 8, 2011 - PRLog -- Lincolnshire UK : 0844 numbers can be great for making an additional unexpected revenue from incoming business phone calls that a UK company receives.

With 0844 numbers, callers to 0844 numbers are charged at a flat rate of 5p per minute from a standard BT landline. For every minute that the call lasts the owner of a 0844 number receives a rebate of 1p. Therefore the more calls a company receives the more money they make back in terms of a rebate. Rebates on 0844 numbers are only made on calls going to a landline, so no rebate is paid on 0844 numbers that forward to a mobile phone. But, for businesses that opt for a 0844 number and have it pointed to a landline, there is a huge benefit as they actually pay nothing to receive the calls, which is a great savings in itself.

“0844 numbers provide a win-win situation for both businesses and their customers” says David Clarke, Director of DBS Telecoms. “UK firms receive revenue from calls made to their 0844 number. The rebate is ideal for generating an additional ‘bonus revenue’ for UK businesses. The 0844 number rebate can soon build making sure firms are actually making money from incoming phone calls rather than being charged for them. It could be said therefore that an 0844 number saves money and makes money at the same time. 0844 numbers are also the perfect solution for customer services numbers, helpline numbers and automated services. Callers of 0844 numbers are not paying high fees to call British companies; just a national rate call charge. This means that callers of 0844 numbers are unlikely to be deterred from ringing the number or even worried about large call charges”.

Ofcom’s ranges of 08 numbers offer British businesses many other added value features and key benefits that usually only accompany expensive telecoms systems. These added value features can help to maximise a firm’s potential and squeeze the most from incoming and outgoing calls. For example, 0844 numbers can also be used as a fax line. Faxes are delivered to a pc in the form of an e-mail which saves on paper, power, ink or toner, thus helping companies to be more “green” and environmentally friendly. With a 0844 fax line there are no charges to receive faxes. In fact the rebate on a 0844 number means that businesses have the opportunity to make money every time a fax is received!

0844 numbers are what are known as “non-geographic”. This means they cannot be pinpointed to a specific geographical area as is the case with a normal STD code. A 0844 number therefore allows businesses to give themselves a national presence rather than be restricted to a small local area. This benefits businesses as they can draw enquiries nationally rather than locally.

DBS Director David Clarke highlights a final key benefit: “An 0844 number can ensure that a business never misses calls, and missed calls mean missed opportunities! Instead, a call plan can be set up on a 0844 number so that it will automatically divert to another landline or mobile if the destination number is busy or not answered. Calls made on an 0844 number with a call plan literally hunt you down so that a customer has the best chance possible of speaking to a live person at your company. 0844 numbers are therefore a valuable tool for any business.”
