By: Jaclyn Mullen Burns, who grew up in Greenwich and spent much of his childhood utilizing the resources of the library, was proud of the community support provided to all of the artists exhibiting, including Karen Santry and Willard Lustenader. “It was a great time,” Burns said of the opening reception. “The attendance was impressive. And I want everyone to know that the show is not over.” The opening reception kicked off the exhibit, which will run through March 16th, 2011. The “Three Visions” collection was curated by Kirsten Pitts and highlights the work of each individual based upon 3 different and intriguing views of Geometry. For Burns, this event was an opportunity to use art as a means of awareness. When interviewed by the Greenwich Post, Burns stated, “I want my artwork to serve as a merger between the strained relations of Islamic cultures and the United States, just as my oil paintings are hybrids of abstract expressionism and Islamic patterns.” Burns paintings are available for purchase at the Flinn Gallery; a portion of the proceeds from the sales will benefit the Greenwich Library.
