By: Pristina Alford Headlining this month’s show will be Animal Style. Known for his virtuoso chops on guitar, keyboards, and Game Boy, the progressive chip musician has also been experimenting with use of Sega Genesis sounds on his latest 8bitpeoples album Trenchvent. Recently contributing his cover of New Order’s “Bizarre Love Triangle” to a certain meme-o-riffic teen movie spoof, Chipocrite’s funk bass and Game Boy-styled EP Hit and Run has been getting accolades and repeated listens from fans and peers alike. Also featured is Brooklyn’s Jamie Curran, aka Rhinostrich, using a pair of GP2X’s to create hard house dance beats. Supporting the lineup is newcomer Iron Curtain, armed with a single Game Boy and cartridge of Little Sound DJ for his debut show. “Philly’s got some of the most talented chip musicians on the East Coast.” says Jessen Jurado, promoter of I/O Chip Music. “In fact, New York fans make a monthly exodus to see Philadelphia scene chip musicians at their monthly 8static show, so it’s awesome to also see these guys play here too, in the first of many more Philly chip music lineups at the Antagonist Art Gallery in Niagara Bar.” Chip music uses computer-generated sounds – beeps, bloops, and static noise – to create music in all genres from hip hop to house to rock and everything in between.
