Follow on Google News | A Stardust Arts Student is Selected to Represent California in VSA NationalsVSA, Organization for Arts and Disabilities of the State of California, presents a national competition. Four Students from each state selected for national exhibition.
By: Mithraslight Graphic Designs Carlsbad, CA… CONGRATULATIONS to Misa Sturdivant, a 5th grader from Carlsbad, enrolled in The Stardust Arts program. She has been selected to represent California as one of the 2011 All Kids Can CREATE submissions in this prestigious and competitive visual arts recognition programs. Misa’s beautiful work “THE TIGER” was selected to represent California in wonderful collection of art from over the United States by VSA with the wonderful support of CVS Caremark. Four entries from each state were selected to represent that state, from which a highly qualified panel will select works to be adjudicated into a national exhibition. Student artwork will be featured in an online gallery and considered for display in a national touring exhibition debuting in Washington, D.C., in June 2011. The exhibition will be on view in June and feature two pieces of artwork from every state and the District of Columbia. Thousands of visitors from all over the world will have the opportunity to view the exhibition and browse it online. All submissions will be included within the exhibition in an interactive kiosk display. In February, each VSA state affiliate selected four representative artworks to be sent to the VSA national office. Two pieces from each state and the District of Columbia will be selected for the inclusive exhibition featuring artwork created by children with and without disabilities. A selection of young artists will be invited to a reception in Washington, D.C. VSA, the international organization on arts and disability, was founded more than 35 years ago by Ambassador Jean Kennedy Smith to provide arts and education opportunities for people with disabilities and increase access to the arts for all. With 52 international affiliates and a network of nationwide affiliates, VSA is changing perceptions about people with disabilities around the world. Each year, 7 million people of all ages and abilities participate in VSA programs, which cover all artistic genres. VSA is an affiliate of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. CVS Caremark All Kids Can CREATE, a program of the CVS Caremark Charitable Trust and CVS Caremark, is a five-year, $25 million commitment to support children with disabilities. The goals of CVS Caremark All Kids Can CREATE are to support children with disabilities by raising awareness in schools and in local communities about the importance of inclusion, creating greater opportunities for physical activity and play, and providing access to medical rehabilitation. CVS Caremark and its more than 210,000 employees plan to help children with disabilities learn, play and succeed through partnerships with leading local and national nonprofit organizations such as VSA and many others across the country. Since the program’s inception in 2009 with the sponsorship of a grant from the Kenneth A. Picerne Foundation, The City of Oceanside, Art Commission, the support from the San Dieguito Woman’s Club in Encinitas, and numerous private donations, the program has reached out to over 2000 students and received recognition from the California State Assembly and the San Diego County Board of Supervisors in 2010.
