March 21, 2011 - PRLog -- Standard Chartered’s Head of Research West, Marios Maratheftis, will deliver a keynote address on the implications of the World Economic Supercycle at the TMT Finance & Investment Middle East 2011 Conference at the Ritz-Carlton in the Dubai International Financial Centre on May 9-10.

The prestigious annual conference, now in its fifth year, gathers international leadership from telecom, media and finance organizations, to debate investment strategy and global and regional partnership opportunities.  Renowned for shaping the investment agenda for the year ahead the conference features visionary keynote speeches and leadership panel debates.

Marios Marathefitis’s keynote presentation: “The World Economy is in a Supercycle: The implications, the drivers, and the winners.”  will take place at 11.15am on May 9 the first day of the conference, examining how increased trade, especially among emerging markets, rapid industrialisation and urbanisation will impact investment strategies of global businesses.

“These are exciting times for the world economy. The present super-cycle is similar to what the economy experienced in the 1800's during the industrial revolution,” said Maratheftis. “But unlike previous super-cycles, this time Asia is the driver, with a greater proportion of the world's population participating and enjoying the benefits.”
Standard Chartered defines a super-cycle as “a period of historically high global growth, lasting a generation or more, driven by increasing trade, high rates of investment, urbanisation and technological innovation and characterised by the emergence of large, new economies, first seen in high catch-up growth rates across the emerging world.”

“We are delighted to have such an original, provocative and influential keynote speech on the programme for this year’s event,” said Dominic Lowndes, managing director of BroadGroup TMT Ventures, the conference organiser. “The explosion of growth in emerging markets and the impact that has on international investment strategy is critical to our audience of telecom CEOs, investors and advisers, many of whom already have significant investments in Asia, so it will be fascinating to follow this theme throughout the conference.”

The TMT Finance Middle East Conference programme for 2011 reflects the global investment drive by major telecommunication operators and media companies in the region, as they grow new business models and investment strategies.  Key themes this year include Global Telecom Strategy; Mergers and Acquisitions; Next Generation Leadership; Media and Convergence; Financing Growth; Broadband; Regulation and Creating New Paths to Operational Efficiency.

The conference is supported this year by Saudi Telecom Company (STC) as main event sponsor along with Booz & Company, Clifford Chance and SNR Denton. The conference is for CEOs, CSOs and CFOs of telecom, media and technology companies, investment bankers, private equity investors, policy makers, regulators, lawyers, management consultants and professional advisers.

The TMT Finance Middle East Awards Ceremony Dinner takes place at the end of the first day of the conference, also at the Ritz Carlton Dubai on May 9 from 19.00-21.00. For full details of the conference and Awards Ceremony visit www.tmtfinance.com/me
