March 29, 2011 - PRLog -- As Lucky Bat Books publishes award-winning Canadian author Doug Smith’s short stories and novelettes this week, the revolutionary publishing company will be giving away one e-book per day on its Facebook page.

The stories by Doug Smith include fantasy, horror, science fiction – all the genres that Doug Smith readers love him for. These are the stories that take the reader one step further than she’s ever gone before. To the edge. Doug Smith’s edge of the world, one that is exceptionally surreal and yet also ultra-reality.

Lucky Bat Books is publishing a list that includes Doorways, By Her Hand, Going Harvey in the Big House, Spirit Dance, Scream Angel, A Taste Sweet and Salty, and more. All will be available on all major e-book formats – Amazon Kindle, Nook, and others.

As the books are published and announced, one will be tagged “FREE” on Lucky Bat Books’ Facebook page. And one respondent each day will receive that day’s free e-book. (Information on the giveaway is available on Facebook. Search “Lucky Bat Books”.)

“We’re making Doug Smith’s books available to a whole new range of fans by publishing them to the e-book reading public,” says Judith Harlan, co-founder of Lucky Bat Books. “And Doug is one of the very savvy writers in the industry who sees a new life for his previously published (and possibly some unpublished) short stories.”

Much of Lucky Bat Books’ business is aimed at e-books. “That’s where a lot of the excitement in the publishing industry is right now,” says Cindie Geddes, also co-founder of Lucky Bat Books and an author of numerous shorts stories, articles and book-length works. “That doesn’t mean we won’t have print books, too. But it does mean a whole new paradigm for writers and the business of being a writer.”

Readers who are downloading their favorite books on Kindles, Nooks, iPads, Droids, and smart-phones of every ilk are also expected to revel in the availability of short stories and republished works by their favorite authors. “For those books you can’t find in used book stores, for those stories you missed when they were published in a magazine or journal, and for new stories that continue the authors’ work,” says Harlan, “– for those stories, e-books are a fabulous resource. They put all those wonderful tales right at your fingertips.”

Authors, meanwhile, are finding a direct distribution channel to their readers. And Lucky Bat Books provides the expertise writers need to publish their books professionally, cleanly formatted and with well-designed covers and promotional materials.
