Nintendo 3DS Fans Start Public Meetings In New York City!

April 13, 2011 - PRLog -- The newly launched Nintendo 3DS has taken the United States by storm, debuting on March 27th at the Union Square Best Buy in New York City. Since then, enthused fans have set up monthly meetings around the world to revel in the StreetPass function of the new 3D handheld.

StreetPass NYC is a subset of the much larger, global-wide grassroots StreetPass network of meetings popping up all over the globe from America to Japan and South Africa. Their goal is for fans of the Nintendo 3DS system to interact face to face in a non-discriminatory public venue and to promote a more active and personable gaming experience to combat portrayal of the stereotypical anti-social gamer image persisting in popular media.

Jordan White, founder of StreetPass NYC, is excited for April 16th where a legion of fans will descend upon the Union Square Plaza in New York City to quote, “Exchange StreetPass Data, play games head to head, take 3D photos and chat about upcoming Nintendo 3DS news.”

Users will be able to identify the meeting place via large AR (Augment Reality) cards placed around the park that the Nintendo 3DS can use to play Augmented Reality games using the Nintendo 3DS built in 3D camera.

According to their website, the group “Is a drama-free group who welcomes every gamer of every skill level and background to exchange StreetPass data, play Nintendo 3DS games, chat and more!”

StreetPass is a function of the Nintendo 3DS handheld gaming system. Quoting from Nintendo’s website, “Set your Nintendo 3DS to Sleep Mode and carry it with you wherever you go to exchange game data like Mii™ characters, high scores, and custom characters with other users you pass on the street.”
