Eco-Friendly Bag Designer Shows Commitment to Green

Fibre Arts Design, a designer of eco-friendly bags located in Palo Alto, CA is built on a green mission, joins Green Business Bureau to become green business certified.

April 25, 2011 - PRLog -- HOUSTON – Fibre Arts Design, a Palo Alto, CA-based company that uses recycled and organic materials to create eco-friendly, fashionable bags was founded with the mission of creating “designs for a greener world”.  The company recently took that mission a step further by enrolling with the Green Business Bureau (GBB) to become green business certified.
As a company with a green mission, incorporating green business practices has been a priority from day one.  Fibre Arts Design uses eco-friendly products in the office as much as possible, says Wo Schiffman, Fibre Arts Design’s CEO, including CFLs, green cleaning products, and recycled paper products.  The company purchases alternative wind and solar power through Palo Alto’s green energy program and has greened their bag production.
“We design and manufacture eco-friendly bags, so we also put a lot of effort into sourcing American eco-friendly textiles, many of which are made from recycled materials,” says Schiffman.  “We have a low-waste manufacturing process which means that we recycle or compost our scrap material whenever possible.”
Fibre Arts Design has written HR policies that encourage employees to be more eco-friendly, and is conducting research into how other companies are doing the same.  The firm also contributes to employee public transportation expenses and rewards those workers that carpool, bike or skateboard to work more than 50% of the time.  The team has even organized eco-friendly dry cleaning pick up from the office, as well as CSA-share drop off, to further minimize their combined carbon footprints.
“Environmental responsibility has always been a key corporate priority, and eco-friendly practices are built into every aspect of our business,” says Schiffman. “We are committed to incorporating the concept into our branding, and the GBB helps us to communicate that to our customers.”
Schiffman says Fibre Arts Design joined the GBB to have an outside certification of its eco-friendly business practices.  As a member of the GBB, Fibre Arts Design joins the nation’s fastest-growing third-party green business certification organization.  Membership in the GBB helps businesses gain the recognition they have earned by making the commitment to sustainability.
“There's so much green-washing and misinformation in the marketplace to confuse people,” says Schiffman. “We chose the GBB over other programs because it seemed like the most reliable, business-oriented program.”
Fibre Arts Designs also appreciated the educational aspect of the GBB program.
“We put a lot of work into maintaining high eco standards,” says Schiffman. “We like that the GBB helps us learn how we can improve our standards by listing specific steps we can take to become more green.”
