9200 Bottles Of Water Donated For Alabama Tornado Survivors by Yank Barry

Mr. Barry learned from Brian Wallace of the Birmingham, Alabama Salvation Army that they alone have handed out over 65,000 bottles of water total since the devastating tornadoes struck last week. The Salvation Army are handing out an average of 10,000 to 11,000 bottles of drinking water a day. The 9,200 bottles of water that Global Village Champions donated went directly to their canteens, or mobile kitchens, directly to those affected. Mr. Wallace commented, “Some water systems have been contaminated so this is the only way for many survivors to get clean water. It meant the world to us at The Salvation Army that Yank Barry and Global Villager Cameron Jacques of nearby Atlanta were willing to take the time to help. The most urgent need is still water, non-perishable food, and paper products like toilet paper and paper plates. Can openers and pots and pans will also be needed to cook the food we receive.”

Founded by Yank Barry, Global Village Champions Foundation has a 17 plus year history of providing meals for children in need. To date, Yank along with Muhammad Ali and the rest of the Global Village Champions have supplied approximately 485,000,000 meals around the World. While feeding hungry children is the primary focus of Global Village Champions, they have also responded to numerous natural and man-made disasters providing emergency supplies for families and communities. Recent donations include emergency aid for earthquake and tsunami survivors in Japan as well as survivors of the epic flooding followed by the worst landslides in 100 years in April, 2011 in Southern Thailand.

After visiting communities ravaged by the recent tornadoes Mr. Barry stated, “I have witnessed the destruction caused by earthquakes, hurricanes, floods and tsunamis but nothing prepares you for what a tornado can do. Only inches away from a completely demolished building you can see shrubs, flowers or even another building completely untouched. I encourage everyone to give what they can to help the survivors of these storms to rebuild their lives. I was inspired by the extraordinary community spirit demonstrated by the people that we met who are rebuilding their lives and towns. Please give generously to The Salvation Army, The United Way or the Red Cross or volunteer your time and energy.”
