May 12, 2011 - PRLog -- Downingtown, PA – The Dryer Vent Cleaning Downingtown Wizard was saddened when he read about two recent dryer fires that nearly claimed the lives of pets.  Dryer vent cleaning is recommended annually by dryer manufacturers and the National Fire Prevention Association.  Over 17,000 dryer fires occur each year causing injuries, deaths and over $100 million in property damages.

According to Gerry Rhen, owner of Dryer Vent Wizard, dryer vent cleaning is the best way to prevent dryer related fires.  When asked why so many consumers fail to clean dryer vents, Rhen answered, “Out of sight, out of mind.  People take the clothes dryer for granted and since they cannot see the inside of their dryer ducts, they do not think about it.”

According to Gerry, many people think it is normal for an older dryer to take longer to properly dry laundry.  “This is a very dangerous misconception,” said Rhen.  “This is a sure sign of lint build-up blocking air-flow.  If left unchecked, it can lead to a devastating fire.”

Gerry recalls two dryer fires that caused major property damage and nearly killed the families’ pets.  “No one was home when the fires started,” said Rhen. “We advise all our customers to never leave the house or go to sleep when the dryer is operating.”

Milford, NH – A dryer fire caused significant smoke damage to a home.  No one was injured and the American Red Cross has arranged temporary housing for the family of five, 2 adults, 3 children and their pet rabbit.

Newville, PA – A dryer fire caused damage to 3 homes in an apartment complex.  The flames were contained to one room, but the building sustained moderate fire damage and some water damage.  The residents were not home at the time of the fire.  Next door neighbors smelled smoke and called the fire department.  Their home sustained some smoke damage.  Firefighters rescued two dogs and another one fled safely outside.  One of the dogs was taken to an animal hospital for treatment.  The American Red Cross was on the scene to assist families.

The above stories could have ended much worse than they did.  Though damages were extensive, no one was injured.  “Dryer fires are caused by a combination of intense heat and air-flow blockage,” said Rhen.  “Dryer fires can spread rapidly and completely destroy a home in the length of time it takes to run out for a gallon of milk.”

The Dryer Vent Cleaning Downingtown Wizard is making a difference in his community by encouraging public awareness of the danger of dryer fires and how easily they can be prevented with simple appliance maintenance.  Dryer vent cleaning promotes dryer efficiency and improves dryer performance while eliminating a fire hazard.
