May 25, 2011 - PRLog -- IRVINE, CA – Clear insights into creating a rewarding post-recession workplace dynamic, plus solid information on material compensation in the building and development industry, are now available in the newly-published 2011 Building Industry Compensation and Benefits Guide from Irvine-based JWilliams Staffing, Inc.

Featuring more than 100 relevant industry positions, the guide is designed to aid both companies and employees as they reevaluate work and assignments. Contributions from builders and developers throughout the state helped assure timely and relevant data, according to JWilliams Staffing founder and CEO JoAnne Williams.

“The depth and harshness of the recent recession may have a significant and lasting impact on the ways in which we all work and do business,” Williams says.

“Especially in the building industry, with a generally nimble approach to the workplace, trimming positions and organizational layers has created a new workplace reality in which professionals must be flexible and multi-skilled.

“Understanding current, competitive salary and benefit packages is critical as the industry gets back to work,” she adds.

The new guide provides basic job summaries along with salary levels for a wide array of positions within the industry.  There is also a section devoted to compensation according to size of the firm, making it easy to compare key responsibilities and salary levels at a range of firms.

John Burns, CEO of John Burns Real Estate Consulting, Inc., Irvine, California, agrees with Williams that workplace rules are changing within the industry.  “Those (companies) who made decisions based solely on gut feel…are gone…replaced by those who are also experienced, but who have created new processes and procedures…”

In addition to providing hard numbers on compensation and benefits, JWilliams Staffing’s new guide offers builders additional aid in how to identify and interview the best candidates, improve team morale and develop strong leadership within the organization.

Contributions from industry leaders like John Burns, Tom Miller president of The VisionLink Advisory Group and business-building strategist and author Chris Alexander, give builders a quick review of the essentials critical to creating a focused workplace culture in which immediate compensation is only one motivating factor for employees committed to overall business growth. This information should help companies through what might be a bumpy transition, Williams believes.

“After a long period of low turnover, employers might expect their top talent to leave for – or at least explore options in – greener pastures,” she says. “Companies must plan for a possible rise in attrition and move faster to start filling the talent pipeline.”

Williams and her team, who worked with the California Building Industry Association in compiling the Building Industry Compensation and Benefits Guide, plan to issue it annually.  They would also like to incorporate information from other building industry associations around the country, providing the industry with a reliable assessment standard.

The Guide is available through JWilliams Staffing, Inc., at http://www.jwilliamsstaffing.com.  Substantial discounts are available to BIA members and to those builders who participated in the survey.
