New ontoprise Product Releases at SemTech: OntoBroker 6.1 and OntoStudio 3.1

June 6, 2011 - PRLog -- Karlsruhe, Germany, 5 June 2011 | ontoprise GmbH from Karlsruhe, Germany, announced today the new releases of OntoBroker 6.1 and OntoStudio 3.1. The ontoprise product suite is the most complete SemanticWeb infrastructure and the only one worldwide supporting all major W3C SemanticWeb recommendations including OWL, RDF(s), RIF and ObjectLogic. According to the “OpenRuleBench” benchmark, OntoBroker is this year again clearly the leading rule and ontology engine concerning the evaluation performance. The evaluation performance has been heavily improved again compared to the previous OntoBroker version.



OntoBroker 6.1: Multicore scalability and performance

The independent “OpenRuleBench” benchmark (see http://rulebench.projects.semwebcentral.org) confirms again OntoBroker’s outstanding performance and scalability which allows for using huge and complex ontologies. OntoBroker 6.1 further improves performance and scalability by leveraging modern multicore hardware.
Another major focus for performance improvements is the semantic information integration. OntoBroker 6.1 provides a flexible, high-performance cache for access of remote data sources (e.g. LOD or relational databases).
Loading time of ontologies might be twice as fast as before when using the new compact binary knowledge base snapshot feature of OntoBroker 6.1.

Support for Linked Open Data (LOD)
Many data sources available in the WWW are published as Linked Open Data (LOD). OntoBroker 6.1 provides full support for integration of LOD data sources with easy-to-use SPARQL connectors.
Furthermore, OntoBroker can be used as a server for LOD. The OntoBroker server can be started as a SPARQL endpoint which can be accessed easily with standard SPARQL queries. The endpoint also supports SPARQL UPDATE which allows loading, updating, and modifying the data.

Security
OntoBroker provides a strong and flexible role-based security model which can be extended by rules. In OntoBroker 6.1 the security model was further extended. It is now allowed to restrict access on properties.



OntoStudio 3.1: Industry proven ontology modelling environment

The two main features of the latest OntoStudio release are the harmonization of the ontology language editing perspective and an integrated versioning component based on WebDAV. In former OntoStudio releases, there were separate modelling perspectives for each modelling language. With only one modelling perspective for all languages, it’s much easier for users to create and maintain ontologies. An additional versioning component based on WebDAV also supports users by developing ontologies via ontology check-in and check-out.

Additional OntoStudio 3.1 improvements:
- Extending existing DB Schema Imports by additional tables and columns
- Improved graphical Mapping Tool to integrate ontologies and external data sources much easier
- Improved navigation between all ontology entities
- Performance Improvements for handling ontologies (especially ontologies with large rule sets)
