Catharine Arrowood Selected To Receive H. Brent McKnight Renaissance Lawyer Award

June 28, 2011 - PRLog -- RALEIGH, N.C. – Catharine Arrowood, a partner at Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein LLP (http://www.parkerpoe.com), has been chosen to receive the H. Brent McKnight Renaissance Lawyer Award at the 2011 North Carolina Bar Association Annual Meeting at the Grove Park Inn in Asheville. The presentation of the award took place on Friday, June 24, at the President’s Luncheon. The McKnight Award was proposed by the NCBA Professionalism Committee in 2006 and adopted by the NCBA Board of Governors to recognize attorneys who demonstrate the “Renaissance Lawyer” qualities embodied by Judge McKnight, who died in 2004 while serving on the U.S. District Court for the Western District of N.C. The Professionalism Committee recommends each recipient of the award for formal selection by the NCBA Board of Governors.

- Arrowood is the sixth recipient of the H. Brent McKnight Renaissance Lawyer Award, preceded by Peter Gilchrist (2006), E. Osborne Ayscue Jr. (2007), Wade Smith (2008), Mark Bernstein (2009) and Woody Connette (2010).

- She has been a partner with Parker Poe since 1982. Prior to joining the firm, she served as an associate attorney general for the N.C. Department of Justice.

- Arrowood has served as president of the Wake County Bar Association and 10th Judicial District Bar. She is a fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers and recently was named chair of the N.C. Symphony Society.
 
- She served on the NCBA Board of Governors from 2007-2010. Arrowood was nominated by the NCBA’s Women in the Profession Committee, which she chaired from 2004-2006.
