By: Diamond Music Group Where Do We Go From Here? boasts a who’s who of features that represent a comprehensive cross section of today’s underground hip-hop climate, with talent that includes Guilty Simpson, Termanology, REKS, Ruste Juxx, Buff 1 and Carlitta Durand, among others. Throughout the album’s 14 tracks, the content matter clings tightly to its title, as G. Huff tackles issues that effects all of us, over Vice’s soulful production. Even as the tenor of the album’s content meanders from conventional to street, the theme remains intact, obligating the listener to investigate the question at hand - where do we go from here? The LP opens with the album titled single “Where Do We Go From Here?”, which begs the question, how did we get here? The question is not posed from an evolutionary standpoint, but more from a sociological perspective, as G. Huff addresses many of the social ills of the inner city, contemplating how these issues began, while brooding over the odds of being able to progress. Songs like “Jaylon Andre The Prince” address the joys and pains of fatherhood, while tracks like “Sideline Hating” incites the all too familiar phenomenon of industry snakes that hate behind your back, but kowtow to your face. On “The Word”, featuring the soulfully blended vocals of Carlitta Durand (Little Brother, Skyzoo) and J Tronius, G. Huff examines his relationship with God as he hangs up old habits in exchange for more spiritual pursuits - “Gotta make changes/before I knew God, I had to know me, I was a perfect stranger.” Most of the album’s features are condensed to a few tracks, such as the posse cut “100 of Us”, featuring Guilty Simpson, Termanology, Ruste Juxx, Canayda & Red Eye (of The Closers) and the triumphant “Pure Genius”, featuring REKS, Hi Jinks & Buff1, leaving the bulk of the album’s material to highlight the chemistry of G. Huff and Vice. “The time and detail we put into this LP is evident from track 1 to track 14. We respect the history of hip-hop, so we knew that we could not half-step with our debut” explains Vice. “Though we are new to the industry we are not rookies when it comes to making beats and writing dope songs. G. Huff and I touch all the bases on this one. Huff keeps you locked in while I keep your head nodding…”, he concludes. Where Do We Go From Here? is a cohesive body of work that both pays homage to the emcee/producer combination of yesteryear while pushing the culture forward with beats that are as soulful as they are progressive and themes that are as current as they are timeless.
