July 18, 2011 - PRLog -- In the July issue of Indoor Environment Connections, an article about infrared cameras (IR) is garnering a lot of attention.  “How I Use My IR Camera: Field Cases for Thermography” details the experiences of Ed Chambers, CIEC, CBST.  Mr. Chambers is the owner of EC2, Inc. which is based in the Chicago area.

According to the article, authored by Mr. Chambers, “Working in the Midwest has allowed for a broad base of experiences in which to further my expertise in building science and thermography. The two areas, building science and thermography, are different yet related subjects, and for us in the environmental field, they often go hand in hand. The environment of the Midwest, not only in a physical sense, but mentally, ecologically, and economically, has provided various extremes over the last several years that made the technology of thermal or infrared imaging appealing to the professional as well as the customer. We have experienced a series of seasonal climatic or weather swings that showed us severe cold and the proverbial ‘hundred year flood,’ which, in our case, were multiple occurrences, and like everyone else, we experienced an economic boom and subsequent downturn, likewise for building and construction, along with a general change in energy awareness in a highly educated and populated region of the country.”

The article highlights how IR cameras were utilized in various situations.  These include moisture mapping, radiant flooring and lift installation, chimney leakage and condensation, and energy auditing.

Since opening for business, EC2 has performed over 5,000 building investigations involving IAQ and various environmental issues.  “IR cameras have become an essential tool in performing many of the investigations we get called upon to resolve,” reported Mr. Chambers.  “Its use, by trained thermographers, gives EC2’s clients access to the latest technologies that helps to efficiently resolve problems and find solutions,” he continued.
