July 22, 2011 - PRLog -- Imagine if the most severe physical pain and sorrow in your life were inflicted by the people you trusted most. In the spring of 2007, Belo Cipriani was beaten and robbed of his sight at the hands of his childhood friends.

Blind: A Memoir chronicles the two years immediately following the assault. At the age of 26, Belo found himself learning to walk, cook, and date in the dark. Armed with visual memory and his newly developed senses, Belo shows readers what the blind see. He narrates the recondite world of the blind, where microwaves, watches, and computers talk, and where guide dogs guard as well as lead.

And since its release Cipriani has taken the literary community of the Bay Area, California, by storm. Recently crowned San Francisco’s Literary Death Match winner, Cipriani’s calendar is overflowing with readings and interviews, including the honor of speaking at the upcoming San Francisco Public Library Americans with Disabilities event on July 26.

His story is riveting. But what makes Cipriani such a sought-after individual is his outlook on life, which is undeniably inspiring, paired with his energy and sustained humor, he’s magnetic.

Cipriani continues to write both creative non-fiction and short fiction across several genres with the help of adaptive technology. To read and edit, he uses a talking computer that runs a screen reader called JAWS and a talking dictionary device called Franklin.

Cipriani holds a Masters Degree in English with an emphasis in Creative Writing from Notre Dame de Namur University, where he studied under award winning poet Jacqueline Berger and fiction writer Kerry Dolan.

He is heavily involved with the San Francisco literary community and is a Lambda Literary Fellow, a supporter of Litquake, The California Writers Club, and a contributing writer for Bay Area publications.
