By: Parsons Marketing | PR | Design “Ben Nelson voted to cut Medicare by $500 billion when he voted to make Obamacare the law of the land," Stenberg said. “Now he says he is going to protect Medicare. What a hypocrite!" “Can we trust a man who voted to cut $500 billion from Medicare to protect Medicare in the future?" Stenberg asked. “I wouldn't bet my Medicare on it." “In 2000, Ben Nelson promised to protect Social Security by stopping the government from spending Social Security money on other government programs. He said he would put the money in a ‘lockbox’." “Ben Nelson broke that promise. Every single dollar in the Social Security Trust Fund has been spent by a wasteful government. All that is left in the Trust Fund is IOUs," Stenberg said. “But now the same Ben Nelson who broke his promise to seniors and let the money in the Social Security Trust Fund be frittered away, says you can trust him to protect Social Security. What a hypocrite! Clearly, we cannot trust Ben Nelson with the Trust Fund." “I know from past experience that Ben Nelson will misrepresent my position on Social Security, so let me state clearly what my position is," Stenberg said. “I will oppose any change in Social Security that reduces current benefits for anyone at or near retirement age. Period.” “I will support a Protect Young People’s Social Security plan that will allow young people the choice of trusting the government to pay them their Social Security 20 or 30 or 40 years from now or allow them to keep part or all of their Social Security contributions in a personally owned FDIC insured bank account, like an IRA, so that the government can't take their retirement money away from them and spend it on other things," Stenberg said. Paid for by Stenberg for Senate 2012 Committee # # # Mr. Stenberg served as Nebraska Attorney General from 1990-2002 and was elected Nebraska State Treasurer in 2010. GOP U.S. Senate nominee in 2000 against Ben Nelson. Genuine, lifelong conservative. Supports 2nd Amendment, pro-life, balanced budget. End
